The Jarvis Green Foundation Launches
Southern Louisiana Annual Wine Tasting Gala in Baton Rouge
Proceeds will be distributed to disadvantaged single mothers in Baton Rouge low income areas
(BATON ROUGE LA – May 16, 2011) The Jarvis Green Foundation’s wine tasting gala, which benefits disadvantaged single mothers in low income areas comes to Baton Rouge. The evening festivities at the Cook Hotel/Lod Cook Alumni Center will include a live band, dining on gourmet food, sipping fine wines, a raffle and a silent auction.
These women take on awesome responsibilities of raising and building the lives of precious children alone. Despite the circumstance, the key is a parent who not only provides for their children but gives much love and doesn’t give up. Therefore, The Jarvis Green Foundation hosts various events and fundraisers in an effort to help make these families’ dreams a reality.
“As athletes we need to think twice about the decisions we make to help the community. So many people invest time in helping to develop an athlete and support that person. So the least we [athletes] can do is give back. You paying forward is giving back what’s been invested in you.” said, Jarvis Green
Friday evening May 27th 7-11pm, the start of Memorial Day weekend patrons will be enjoying various flavors from Treasury Wine Estates at different stations placed throughout the venue while sampling international and southern cuisine catered by Unique Cuisine of Lod Cook Center. In addition, live music will be provided by Rat Pack Band featuring Liza Minnelli, jokes by comedian D’lai, and other performances such as X-tremetalent caricature, Elvis Statue and Jester Juggler.
A former 2x-Superbowl Champion, New England Patriot and current Houston Texan, Jarvis will be joined by former LSU and NFL players and coaches (i.e., Corey Webster, Bradie James, Kyle Williams, Randall Gay, Alan Faneca, Kevin Faulk, Glenn Dorsey, Tyson Jackson, former All-Pro RB Jamal Anderson, Texans 2nd rd pick Brandon Harris, etc) Hollywood celebrities and various top local executives.
Coming from a two parent household and growing up in Louisiana, Jarvis came to appreciate the strength and sacrifice many of these single mothers make for their children life seen through his friend’s experiences and neighborhood. Jarvis’s foundation selected its first recipient years ago, Michelle Jefferson, a New Orleans native who lost everything in the flooding caused by Hurricane Katrina. Michelle was flown to New York for an appearance on the Montel Williams Show and surprised with much-needed financial assistance among other gifts. On ESPN Jim Rome, Jarvis surprised Michelle at the house he helped her purchase after the natural disaster.
Tickets can be purchased through Jarvis Green Foundation website and to view some of the auction items and pre-bid online, click here Jarvis Green Foundation Online Fundraiser.
Sponsors for the event are First Millennium Construction, Walton Core Construction, Clear Channel Baton Rouge, Real Sports Fundraising, The Pretzel Twister, Treasury Wine Estates, Patron Tequila and Ultimat Vodka.

HIP HOP HARMONY (HHH) shapes and reinforces urban culture as a power for social and economic transformation in the African context.
HHH is a 2-part project that will regionalize Hip Hop; bridging divides in Africa while strengthening and developing the quality of Hip Hop expression.
HHH includes one prized Emcee from MALI, SENEGAL, MAURTIANIA, MOROCCO & GUINEA BISSAU, along side a DJ – who will converge in Dakar, Senegal in November of 2010 to produce an album. This aspect of HHH will be produced by Ze Manel Fortes, the composer of the first Pan-African Opera (The Sahel Opera) & Jean Pierre Senghor, known for his longstanding work as pianist for Gilberto Gil. After the recording, HHH will travel to neighboring, Guinea Bissau to participate in an artist residency program and engage BIG UP GB, Guinea Bissau’s hip hop movement.
Guinea-Bissau’s under-recognized and under-supported urban culture is a key focus of this project. Guinea-Bissau is isolated from its neighbors by language (Portuguese Creole), a small economy, and a tumultuous recent history of conflict and narco-trafficking. Though tremendously popular at home, Guinea-Bissau Hip Hop has received little local support, regional and international projection.
Cobiana Communications & Culture is a non-profit organization based in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. We focus on and believe in the power of culture and communication to drive social and economic transformation. Cobiana Communications grew out of Cobiana Records, a record label that transmits the cultures, dignity and identity of Bissau-Guineans. Cobiana represents some of Bissau’s most cherished musical heroes, who have proven that one well-placed act of communication can change everything.
Join us in making HHH a reality. The proceeds of this event will go directly to producing deserving MC’s from these 5 NW African countries, and helping them contribute to a very isolated youth movement in Guinea Bissau.
