For colored girls is for all girls! It’s the story of women. All women have faced the issues in the book at least once if not personally, they know someone who has.
The cast is awesome and deliver their characters with such believability and magnetism.
These actors and actresses are not celebrated enough for the strong performances they have and are giving in this movie.
I want to read the book. As a little girl, my older cousin had the book and I remember not understanding the title. As a woman of 40 and having faced and facing some of the issues touched on in the book, I get it! What I get most is if we cannot be rescued or protected by our men then we must rescue and protect ourselves; our mothers, daughters, nieces, aunts, cousins, friend, and neighbor. Anika Rose’s character recited a poem that stands out in my mind because it spoke to the real ugly truth. Women are often hurt NOT by an anonymous stranger but the very men they trust and/or love! How sad and true.
You do not have to be a Colored girl to see this movie. You don’t have to be a girl. If you let any stereotypes and/or ill thought ideals stop you from seeing a great cast of actors/resses bring real stories to life and you are afraid to see that you fit in somewhere, it’s your loss!

My thought on “For Colored Girls”: I thought the movie was excellent because a lot of women are walking around dealing with pain and trauma… It is comforting to know that others are experiencing the same pain, struggles and hardships that you are facing…. It kind of gives you hope to go on to face another day knowing that we are not alone in the quest to find peace, comfort and answers to our problems…..
I think the title “For Colored Girls” is appropriate because when bad things happen, truth is we sometimes consider doing things that in turn hurt us and stunt our growth… Biblicaly, the Rainbow has always been a symbol of the covenant that God made with his people… So in that regards, the movie was saying that when you feel that all hope is gone, when you think that God’s love is not enough, God is going to show you something or put something in your life to show you how much He loves you… Amazingly at the end of the movie, all of the women were able to rebound and come together as one and guess what… the Rainbow really was enough… God’s love was and always is enough…
I don’t believe that critics can really comment on this film appropriately unless they understand our culture, our history, our traditions, our values… the message will always get lost because they are trying to make reference to a people they don’t really understand… The rainbow is enough…..

Saw Colored Girls. Tyler’s best thus far. The talent was awesome and the message is needed. Great discussion material. The girls need to have drinks over this one.
