april eventThe Newseum continues its new series “The President and Press” with April Ryan, White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks and CNN political analyst.

Ryan will talk about her coverage of the Trump administration and will also discuss her new book, “At Mama’s Knees: Mothers and Race in Black and White.”The Newseum continues its new series “The President and Press” with April Ryan, White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks and CNN political analyst.

The book interweaves a series of stories from iconic figures including former President Barack Obama, Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, about what their mothers told them about race.

The book also includes Ryan’s personal stories, including the way her mother talked to her about race and Ryan’s perspective as a White House correspondent.

 A book signing will follow the program.

“The President and the Press” explores the Trump administration’s relationship with the press, pertinent challenges to the First Amendment, and protecting the free flow of information in a divided nation.

The Parade – Saturday, June 10  @ 4:30 pm

Join tens of thousands of people to watch the Capital Pride Parade in the Nation’s Capital, one of Washington, DC’s, favorite parades! The Parade travels 1.5 miles through Dupont Circle and 17th Street and ends in the Logan Circle neighborhood. The Parade will include more than 180 contingents–floats, vehicles, walkers, entertainment–consisting of local businesses, Capital Pride Heroes and Engendered Spirit awardees, politicians, community groups, drag queens, dogs, and much more.

The annual Pride Parade will step off on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 4:30 pm from 22nd & P Streets, NW, Washington, DC. The Pride Parade travels 1.5 miles through Dupont Circle and 17th Street, passes by the Logan Circle neighborhood and ends along the revitalized 14th Street corridor at S Street.

The review stand is located at 15th and P Streets, NW; another announcement stand is just east of Dupont Circle on New Hampshire Avenue. A sign language interpreter will be available at the 15th and P Streets review stand.

The 42nd Annual Pride Festival in the Nation’s Capital will take place on Pennsylvania Ave. and is presented by Live! Casino & Hotel.  Enjoy a full day of entertainment, music, food, drink, education, and celebration. The festival is open to everyone, and there is no fee for entry; however donations are very much encouraged and appreciated! The Festival is family-friendly. Due to large crowds and very hot asphalt, festival organizers recommend that pets stay at home. The Pride Festival includes three stages of national and local talent and will host 300 exhibitors including local and community groups, national sponsors, local businesses, food vendors, restaurants, and businesses looking to promote their services to our community.

*Free to the public, but donations are encouraged. Tickets are required for the “Pit” by the stage (“Pit Passes”) as well as the VIP beverage garden and viewing area.  Please note there are a limited number of tickets available for each of these areas.

What better way to end the Pride Celebration than with national headlining entertainment and the best local and regional talent performing with the U.S. Capitol and Washington Monument as backdrops.

Enjoy performances by Shea Coulee & Sasha Velour from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9, The Pointer Sisters, Miley Cyrus, Tinashe, Vassy, Tracy Young and more….  The Capital Pride Concert presented by HOT 99.5 will take place on the Capitol Concert Stage on Pennsylvania Avenue.  Please note that entertainment will also be presented on the Monument and Dupont Stages.
