The National Black L.U.V. (Love Unity Vision) Festival—DC’s Largest HIV/AIDS awareness event—will be held September 20, 2009, at Fannie Lou Hammer Park (4th & Pennsylvania Ave., NW). This will mark the 12th anniversary of the Festival, which is known as much for providing top-notch musical entertainment as it is for challenging attendees to be more conscious of the role they play in improving conditions in the Black community.

Some Festival Highlights for 2009 are:

  • Come Test Drive GM’s Hydrogen Vehicle prototype!
  • D.C.’s largest HIV/AIDS awareness mobilization
  • Stop the Violence Music Award honors Hip Hop Pioneers Grand Wizard Theodore (inventor of “scratching”) & Roxanne Shante
  • Presentation of the Fannie Lou Hamer World Community Service Award to Elaine Brown, author of “Taste of Power” and former chairwoman of the Black Panther Party
  • Main Stage – Starts at 12 pm! 100 % solar-powered!  With a Michael Jackson Tribute by DJ Scientific with DChase & Soul Train Line
  • Kids Village Pavilion – Activities Start at 12:30 pm.  Loads of Activities and Scheduled Performance by Beat Ya Feet Competition by the Beat Ya Feet Kings of America’s Best Dance Crew
  • Health & Wellness Pavilion – Activities Start at 12 pm — 30 minutes sessions on Women’s Health Care, Mental Illness, Breath work, Acupuncture, Yoga and More!
  • Health Care Reform Pavilion (NEW) – Session Starts at 2:30 pm — 1 hour information session with 3 renowned speakers on the state of Health Care Reform
