THE GAME OF Monopoly® – without a board?

That’s right! Today, we take to the Smithsonian Museums to secure some of the best property throughout history, space, and our nation’s capital. The winner will be the one who earns enough property by earning points through various challenges (Monopoly themed) and collecting enough items that can be traded in for particular property – related to the Smithsonian.

Put on your top hat and grow funny mustaches and take CHANCES as you search for clues and participate in incredibly fun and exciting challenges against each other – that will become necessary to further your monopoly over the National Mall and the Smithsonian’s. Look for hidden “community chest” items in certain areas floating around the museums (that may earn or cost you money/points).

How does it work?

  1. Upon arrival you will be broken up into teams. Each team will be given a list of several clues and instructions (with random items to find to collect points) . The items are all of little or no cost. (Note: If requested upon arrival we will put you on a team with any friends or other colleagues you may know.)
  2. The list will also contain a location where each team must check in by a certain time. Each team should take whatever items it has and proceed to that location by the designated time. If you are late, you lose points. Teams are not expected to retrieve all of the items listed.

At each location, team members may participate in challenge that will help you gather “clues”. The better you are at the challenge, the more points you can get and perhaps a better clue than the rest of the teams further your monopoly over Washington D.C. This may involve tests of speed, appetite, knowledge, spirit, and the ability to be the most gruesome like in an unusual setting!

  3. Throughout the day, at each location, points will be calculated, teams will get a brief time to rest, and teams will be given a different list of items to retrieve and take to the next location. There will be 3 or 4 different check-ins throughout the Smithsonian’s. At each check-in, teams will be given different instructions, lists and new challenges to complete.
  4. Bonuses are given to the first team to arrive at each respective location. Teams will leave each location in the order in which they arrived. The winning team will be the one that collects the most points, achieves the most valuable prize and gets a Monopoly! Special prizes will be awarded to the top teams.

Throughout the day, you’ll learn about and explore fascinating subjects of a wide range. There are over 100 items listed and what you see depends upon your team’s resolve, speed and ability to have fun!

Note: The race starts at noon sharp!

September 19, 2016 – A Rebirth

I can’t pinpoint the exact date in the Spring of 2008, but what I do know is that on May 1 2008, I posted my first post on this blog – an invite to DC Scout’s 1st Birthday Bash.

By January 1, 2013 (over the course of 5 years), RaeNewman’s Blog had posted over 850 posts and over 57,000 visitors.   From the Project Inspiration Photo Exhibit (11.16.11) to  BMW/Uptown Magazine events to #AllThingsFashion to former client Anji Corley’s fashion & media endeavors to interviews with Estelle, event reviews from Soul Overdose featuring YahZarah, Faith Evans and more.

I started this blog to help people be more “in the know.”  People started realizing that I was a “go-to” source with the inside track to a cornucopia of events and opportunities in DC, NYC, LA, Atl and beyond.  On any given weekend, I’d get a call asking me where to go, what the hot haps were or if there was anything amazing happening for the weekend.  The problem was, I’d always be at an event when those calls came through.  And thus, the blog was born.

Fast forward to September 2016.  And while the blog has been on a 3 year hiatus, the invitations, events and clients have continued to roll in.  The blog comes easy, but look for some things old: MG Sandbox: An Entertainment Think Tank – to launch and announce some new clients; and the return of covering the DC Music Scene, even though Examiner.com has gone defunct as of June 2016, my Examiner articles live on and I’ll continue to write here and freelance for various outlets.  And look for some things new, including “A Creatives Incubator,” (link coming soon) a support system for creatives, artists and tech/STEM which is positioned to take multiple industries by storm….

Have an event or announcement you’d like considered for post on the blog?  Send an email to RaeNewmanBlog@gmail.com and we will consider it.
