The First Annual National Enlightenment Walk for Education Reform in America (NEW ERA) will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 marking the beginning of American Education Week (November 13-19). In an effort to bring awareness and create a sense of urgency on a myriad of issues in America’s education system, this year’s walk will primarily focus on encouraging and supporting the students’ voice in education reform. We firmly believe that if educators and policy makers want to bring about change for the greater good of the students, then it is crucial that they fully understand the students’ perspective. A great part of understanding students’ perspectives can be accomplished by including their thoughts, suggestions, and feedback in the reform process.

Many of you may have missed the radio interview that was done with client, Gabriel Asheru Benn, on The Power of One Voice with Sean Anthony on Sun, November 7th.  Well if you missed it, we have finally made the interview available for you can now to listen at your convenience thanks to Sound Cloud.

Listen to what Asheru has to say about the Educational System; how Hip Hop has helped educators reach some of our academically challenged youth; his programs: HELP – Hip Hop Educational Literacy Program that is in over 200 school systems/40 US cities nationwide (and in South Africa) & the Guerrilla Arts Professionals Program; and examples of the successes that he has had in the classroom.  Socially relevant; empowering, motivating and engaging the youth; policy vs.  personal commitment to communities in need; and why education reform is so critical – now more than ever.
